Outstanding work by a Leicestershire Police, Digital Officer, has seen him shortlisted for an award at the ‘International Digital Investigation & Intelligence Awards 2019’.
PC Jay Lucas is down to the final two in the ‘Innovation in Digital Investigation and Intelligence’ category and will find out whether he has been successful tomorrow (Thursday 14 March).
The award itself celebrates digital innovation, whether that be creating something new or maximising something that already exists.
Jay’s shortlisting comes following his exceptional work in fulfilling the potential of a piece of software called, ‘Voldata Collector’ which has been such a success that it has been shared both regionally and nationally with outstanding feedback.
The tool captures a host of useful information and turns it into an easy to use report. It is now a key part of the response toolkit for cyber and digital responders and has assisted in capturing key evidence at the scene of numerous offences.
An example of recent success for the tool came at the scene of a ransomware investigation. The tools network analysis capability, system event logging and process capture tools enabled investigators at the scene to successfully manage the situation and give early and appropriate protection advice.
Detective Sergeant and Digital Hub Supervisor, Charles Edwards, said: “The work Jay has carried out on ‘Voldata Collector’ is quite brilliant and he absolutely deserves to be shortlisted for this award. He has shown great initiative through taking the time to self-learn a number of different programming languages which has maximised the tools efficiency and user friendly nature.
“He has taken great accountability for the tool itself and the fantastic results that it has attained owe an awful lot to Jay and all of his hard work.”
On being shortlisted for the award, Jay said: “I am honoured to have been shortlisted for this award. I did not expect it at all, there are plenty of outstanding candidates across the country so to get down to the final two is just fantastic.
“I’m really proud of the work that I have done on ‘Voldata Collector’ the most pleasing aspect is the great results that it has attained and the number of people and companies that it has managed to help. To have received such great feedback from a number of people across the industry is also really pleasing for me.”
