Driver assaulted following incident in Hinckley

A driver was assaulted following an incident in Palmer Road, Hinckley, on Sunday (10 March).

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened at around 5.30pm.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was punched. Damage was also caused to his car in the incident including a window being smashed.

The victim had been driving in the area of Palmer Road on Sunday afternoon when he saw two other vehicles blocking the road – one of them being a grey Volkswagen Golf.

It was reported the occupants of these two vehicles were seen to be arguing before the driver of the other vehicle left. The driver of the Volkswagen Golf, who remained in the area, then approached the victim in his car.

The victim wound down his window slightly believing the suspect wanted to speak to him but the suspect was reported to have started shouting at the victim and demanded his dashcam before punching the driver’s side window several times causing it to smash.

The suspect was then reported to have punched the victim several times to the face before kicking the side of the car causing damage.

The suspect then got back into the Volkswagen Golf car and left heading towards Wykin Road.

The victim’s injuries are not believed to be serious. Nothing was stolen in the incident.

Enquiries are ongoing.

Police Constable Alison Barnes said: “We have spoken to a number of people regarding this incident and are appealing for any further witnesses who may have been in the area at the time and seen this incident.

“Anyone who has any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time is also urged to check this to see if they can help us.”
