Incident number: 781 of 18 August

Officers are continuing their investigation into a fatal collision on the A46 near Wanlip in August.

The collision occurred on the A46 northbound, between the slip roads for the A6 and Wanlip, at 10.49pm on Saturday 18 August and involved a silver Citroen Picasso and a black Ford Fiesta.

A 50-year-old woman and a man, 49, both from Syston, were in the Picasso and died at the scene.

The driver of the Fiesta was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

DC Ali Briance from the force’s serious collision investigation unit, said: “We know there were a number of people in the area at the time who stopped to help. We would like to speak to any motorists who approached the scene and left before the emergency services arrived.

“We understand that people have their own reasons for doing this but you may still have information which could help with our enquiries. We are particularly keen to trace two people who may have provided assistance to people at the scene, one of whom may be a medical professional.

“If this was you then we would urge you to get in touch. You may be able to help provide information which could help move this investigation forward.”

A 26-year-old man from Northamptonshire has been arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol and causing death by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC 4484 Ali Briance on 101, quoting incident number 781 of 18 August.
