Appeal continues following assault in Leicester street

Officers investigating an assault in Belvoir Street, Leicester, during the early hours of Friday are continuing to appeal to any witnesses to come forward.

Police were called to the area at 3.30am on Friday (6 October) after a man was reported to have been assaulted by a group of men.

The group of men were reported to have left the scene in a Volkswagen Polo. The vehicle was subsequently located in the University Road area of the city.

The man who was assaulted, who was in his 20s, was injured. He did not attend hospital.

Four men, two aged 19 and two aged 20, all from Leicester, have been arrested on suspicion of affray. They have since been released under investigation.

Enquiries are continuing into the incident.

Detective Inspector Gareth Goddard said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and establish the full circumstances. We are asking anyone who was in the area at the time and who has any information regarding this report of assault to make contact with us.

“The incident happened during the early hours of Friday morning in the city centre area. Were you in the area at the time? Did you see anything but have not yet made contact with us? Or do you have any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area that could hold some vital information?

“If you have any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, then please make contact.”
