M1 northbound re-opened after two found injured

The M1 in Leicestershire between junctions 21 and 21A has been re-opened after two people were found injured.

Police received a call just after 2.10pm this afternoon (Saturday 6 October) reporting two people had been found injured on the carriageway.

A woman was pronounced deceased at the scene and a man was taken to University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire with serious injuries.

No vehicles were involved in the incident. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for HM Coroner. Identification of the deceased will be a matter for the coroner.

Both carriageways were closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident, they have since been re-opened.

Officers thanked motorists who may have been caught up in the tailbacks for their patience.
