A former teacher who sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl more than 30 years ago has been jailed.
Fred Edwards, 69, was found guilty and sentenced to three years at Leicester Crown Court today (Wednesday 8 August). He had denied one count of indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 14 but was found guilty following a trial.
He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
The offence occurred in 1984 when Edwards, of Priory Drive, Fiskerton, Lincolnshire, was a teacher at a Leicestershire school. His young victim was taking part in a camping trip when she was abused while away from her tent.
Detective Constable Anna Blockley, the investigating officer, said: “Edwards strongly denied that he had ever sexually abused his victim but thanks to her courage in coming forward, he is now facing three years in prison.
“There may be other victims of Edwards out there who have not yet come forward. If so, I would urge them to speak to police.”
