UPDATED Victim of serious assault regains consciousness

The investigation into a serious assault which resulted in one of the victims being placed in an induced coma continues.

Last Wednesday (25 July) two men were assaulted in Cromer Street, just off Evington Road, around 11.15pm.

East Midlands Ambulance Service contacted the force reporting that they were treating a man who was found unconscious in the street.

One of the victims, a 50-year-old man, sustained serious facial injuries, including a fractured jaw. He was taken to hospital, placed in an induced coma and has since regained consciousness, his condition is said to be improving.

The victim’s brother intervened and was also assaulted. He sustained minor injuries.

Detective Constable Kirsty Potter is investigating the incident. She said: “From enquiries we’ve carried out so far we know there were a number of people in the area at the time. If you witnessed the incident or captured it on your mobile ‘phone please get in touch.

“One of the suspects was wearing jeans and a dark top. The second suspect was wearing blue jeans, dark top, cream or white trainers and a black baseball cap. If you saw these men then we need to speak to you.

“Equally if you were driving in this area around 11pm last Wednesday can you please check your dashcam equipment for any footage? Any information you can provide may assist us with our enquiries.”
