Fatal collision in Bruntingthorpe – officers continue to appeal for witnesses

Officers were called to the scene involving three vehicles, a car transporter, a BMW and a Ford Fiesta at 4.45pm yesterday (Tuesday 3 July), by a member of the public reporting the collision on Bath Lane in Bruntingthorpe.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, East Midlands Ambulance Service and Helimed also attended the incident where a man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The car transporter driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire for treatment. He has since been discharged.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta was uninjured in the incident.

Road closures where in place on Bruntingthorpe Road with the junctions of Mill Lane, and the A5199.

The road remained closed for around six hours to allow for an investigation of the scene and for recovery of the vehicles, and motorists were advised to seek an alternative route.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation.

Detective Constable 1299 John Borlase, is the investigating officer, he said: “Both cars were travelling towards the A5199 from Bruntingthorpe Road and the transporter lorry was driving in the opposite direction when the collision occurred.

“I would still like to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity and saw the vehicles being driven beforehand or the collision itself.

“Equally, if you have Dashcam footage capturing what happened I would urge you to contact us.”
