Man attacked following attempt to steal phone

A man suffered a stab wound following an attempt to steal his mobile phone while walking along a canal towpath in Leicester.

The victim had been walking along the towpath near Great Central Way in the direction of Upperton Road on Friday (8 June) between 2.45pm and 3.05pm when he was approached by another man.

The man asked for the victim’s phone and made threats. When the victim refused to give his phone, there was a fight before the suspect ran off from the scene.

The victim realised he had suffered a stab wound. He was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.

The suspect is described as white, of slim build, aged around 17-26 years, around 5’8 to 5’10 tall and with light brown cropped hair. He was wearing a grey tracksuit, with a thick blue stripe running down the arms and leg, and white and blue Nike Air Max trainers.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident.

Police Constable Janine Tunnicliffe said: “This incident happened in the afternoon on a warm day when people may have been walking in the area.

“We urge anyone who was in the area at the time to think back to if they saw the incident or anyone matching the description above. Did you see or hear anything unusual or anything which caused you concern?

“We would also ask anyone in the surrounding streets who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to check it to see if you have any information which could help us.”
