Officers are appealing for information following a report of a fight in Bede Park last night.

Police attended the park off Western Road, Leicester at around 8.20pm on Tuesday (15 May) to a report of a fight involving what is believed to be to up to eight people.

A 19-year-old man was assaulted and sustained an injury to his eye. He remains in hospital receiving hospital treatment, his injury is not life threatening.

A 18-year-old Leicester man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and is currently in police custody.

PC Stu Hallam, the investigating officer, said: “Our initial enquiries suggest that there was a disagreement between a group of women and a group of men on the park. This resulted in other people joining in the argument ending in the actual fight.

“While we are speaking to a number of witnesses and assessing local CCTV as part of our investigation, I am keen to speak to anyone else who may have been in the park or the surrounding area at the time of the incident and may have information about what happened. We know that the incident generated an audience from others in the park so I’d be keen to find out what they witnessed.

“Did you see the circumstances leading up to the fight? Do you know the people involved? If you were passing the park or you live in the Western Road area and think you can help, please contact us.”
