An ATM in Market Harborough is the latest machine to be targeted overnight.

Police were called at around 2.30am this morning (6 October) by members of the public reporting the theft at the Spar shop in Coventry Road.

Damage was caused when a JCB telehandler was used to ram the machine and a number of cassettes were stolen.

Several people dressed in dark clothing and wearing face coverings were witnessed leaving the scene in a white car.

A dedicated team of officers is investigating the incident, viewing local CCTV footage and carrying out house to house enquiries as they piece together the circumstances surrounding the theft.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything during the early hours of this morning.

DCI Rob Widdowson is leading the investigation. He said: “Communities defeat criminality, and if any one sees any heavy farm machinery on the roads overnight, please call us. This isn’t normal.

“If you are aware of anyone who has come into a large amount of cash recently, and are concerned about where it came from, please call us.

“This is a national issue and we are working with colleagues across the region to reduce the number of incidents in the East Midlands.

“We have dedicated resources concentrating on solving these crimes and working to bring those responsible to justice.”

If you have any information about the incident or who was responsible you are asked to contact 101, quoting crime number 17*429460.
