Attempted robbery near to Abbey Park

We need your help to identify a man who attempted to rob another man near to Abbey Park.

The victim was walking between 6.30pm and 6.45pm on Sunday 11 June along the canal towpath which runs adjacent with Abbey Lane in the direction of St Margaret’s Way.

He was approached by a man on a bike who stopped the victim to ask for a lighter and after the suspect handed back the lighter, he produced a knife and demanded the victim’s wallet.

The victim managed to flee without anything being stolen.

The suspect is described as white and between 20 and 30-years-old 20-30 years of age. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a black hooded jacket with the hood up and black bottoms.

Did you see the man in the area at the time of the incident? Were you perhaps approached by the suspect in similar circumstances but haven’t contacted police to report this?
