Officers are making a fresh appeal for anyone who saw an assault in Leicester city centre last month.

A 40-year-old woman was approached at around 9.50pm on Thursday 8 June, opposite the stairs to the old Hay Market Theatre, and was approached by a group of between six and eight youths.

A number of the youths assault her, leading to her falling to the floor, where she was kicked and punched in the face, leaving her needing surgery. She has since been discharged from hospital.

The youths left her injured on the floor, running in the direction of the Clock Tower, and a number of passers-by come to her aid.

DC Simon Roberts is investigating this assault. He said: “We have carried out CCTV enquiries and we know there were a number of people who saw what happened who haven’t come forward and spoken to officers.

“We need to speak to you urgently to help the investigation. We need to find out who is responsible for causing these serious injuries to the victim.”

Contact DC 4176 Simon Roberts on 101, quoting incident number 17*241144.
