Current local priorities
Consultation with the community has identified the following priorities that we will be concentrating on over the coming months:
There has been an increase of complaints from residents and local business owners in relation to males in vehicles which are frequenting car parks and streets. These males are then using Legal High's (Psychoactive substances) such as Nitrous Oxide (N02).
The users are then discarding these canisters and balloons onto public footways and also private car parks where the owners have to clear up after them. There are also general litter problems as the persons eat fast food and litter the area.
The amount of canisters which are found in the early hours of the next morning are considerable causing residents and business owners time to clear the rubbish up.
The locations that we are focusing on at this time are in and around:
Halstead Street car park
Temple Road businesses car parks
Benson Street business car parks
Leicester Street Car Park
Sports Lounge Car Park Gwendolen Road
GOALS Car Park Wakerley Road
Uppingham Road Health Centre Car Park

What we are doing:We have liaised with the community on this issue to gather more information that has allowed us to formulate our response. So far, it is apparent that this is predominantly impacting on local businesses as opposed to local residents. A significant number of dedicated patrols targeting the locations have assisted us in deterring further incidents in some locations. There has been a noticeable decrease in these activities although we will continue to address these. Issued: February 2017
