Environment Crime, sometimes referred to as rural crime, encompasses a range of offences including; rural metal theft, hunting, fly tipping, poaching, badger culling, criminal damage, plant theft, theft from agricultural premises and illegal traveller sites.

Leicestershire is a predominately rural county, with 55% of the population living in 210 rural parishes. Rutland is the smallest county in England with a population of 39,200 and is also predominantly rural.
