The main role of Forensic Services to provide a high quality scientific evidence service to the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Our staff are involved in the collection, processing and analysis of forensic and fingerprint evidence.

Our aim is to use forensic science to help identify those who are committing crime in our local communities and in the United Kingdom.

Forensic Services have attained and maintain the national ISO 9001:2008 quality assurance standard fully throughout all our services.

We are committed to providing a high quality flexible service to the public, our colleagues throughout the police service and our partners and friends in the forensic and academic communities. We aim to ensure that our services can be delivered efficiently and conveniently, with effective cost management. We remain conscious that wherever possible our public services should be delivered in a timely and suitably individual manner.

Leicestershire Police Forensic Services staff are involved with many aspects of service provision including a wide variety of incidents including thefts, burglaries and murder.

Every year, thousands of pieces of evidence from crime scenes are collected and processed by the department including shoemarks and DNA samples. Thousands of fingerprints pass through our bureau or are developed by our laboratory staff using chemical processes.

We remain proud that staff from your local police service are not only serving you but also the national interest.

Forensic Services staff from Leicestershire are actively engaged in national projects to develop and implement new technology, improve the efficiency and quality of evidential procedures and the ability and competency of staff. Our officers have also been involved in major international operations that have taken them to the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Kosovo, and countries affected by the Tsunami.
